Lili’s boyfriend was a handsome guy. He had a short light brown hair and sad green eyes. They were not really sad eyes, but they looked so soulful. When you look into his eyes, you would think that he maybe thinking about something from far away. It would make you curious to get to know him. His nose was so straight which matched with his thin pink lip and perfect white teeth and his oval face. His height was just average compares to other Caucasian guy, but his 5’8 foot tall was perfect for Lili. That guy was just a flawless boyfriend that every girl wishes for. However, Lili never got enough of him. Every time I saw her, she always complained about her boyfriend. She got jealous so easily. She didn’t like her boyfriend talking to other girls. He could not give a drive to any girl. Lili’s mind was full of jealousy, and she always suspected her boyfriend. Every time she texted, or called him, if he replied late, her temperature actually went up after. She loved him so much that she couldn’t trust anyone, nor her boyfriend. She was just so afraid to lose him. Even though they spent most of the time together, except when they were at work, she still thought that he might cheat on her at his work. Still, she never found anything about him cheating on her. He came home on time from work. He didn’t talk on phone for so long, or tried to hide or go away when he was talking.
It was on November 14th 1987, the snowiest day of the year, and it was weird because on November it didn’t really snow at all; the weather was so bad, but Lili decided to come home early so that she could make dinner for her and her boyfriend to celebrate their 3rd year together since the day they met. At first she wanted to give him a surprise when he came home, but then she decided to go to his work place and wait for him to go shopping with her. She didn’t call him. She sat at the waiting room on the corner across his office. She could see his moving shape. He was talking on the phone, laughing. She asked herself what was so funny about the conversation. She smiled, and couldn’t wait for him to finish. Half an hour more then she could see him. She looked around the room, everyone was so busy to notice her. Then she saw a lady, tall, blond, sexy, walking on her pair of elegant high heal toward her boyfriend’s office. That lady had a great smile. She was friendly to everyone around. Lili’s heart started to pumping so fast, but Lili didn’t want to think it the negative way. She talked to herself that maybe that lady was just his co-worker, or his secretary who needed some information or gave information for her boyfriend. The lady opened the door, smiled brightly as Lili could see the shape. Her boyfriend too, smiled back at her, and they were talking about something funny. Lili started to worry, or felt jealous, she wasn’t sure; all she wanted to do now was went straight to her boyfriend’s office, and showed that lady that she was his girlfriend, but she didn’t. She tried to stay calm to see what would happen. She watched their funny talking scene, and hoped that they would kiss so that she could just go straight to his room and slapped him and her in the face. After awhile, she could see clearly, her boyfriend was looking at his watch, then the lady left the office. She was now really calm down because nothing happened. She smiled again. She knew her boyfriend was going to come out as his time at work was over, so she tried to go outside first to wait for him.
She called him, and pretended she was still at work. “Hi baby, you finish your work yet?”
“Yes, I just finished.” he answered, smiling as she could see him through the clear window.
“I haven’t cooked any food at home, so I think you should have instant pasta when
you get home, I’ll make dinner when I come home okay baby?” she said.
“Don’t worry baby, I was going to call you to let you know I will be out for dinner with one of my co-worker, won’t be home until 9 or 10.” he said, still smiling.
Her adrenaline started to raise. She saw that pretty lady coming toward her boyfriend. She thought again, maybe they would go dinner together, and her boyfriend was really cheating on her. She got so mad, still she couldn’t do anything. She let him go without saying anything. She wanted to follow them to see where they would be, but she couldn’t because she left her car at home. She took the bus to go to see him with hoping that later they would go shopping together, but now it ended up like this.
“Okay baby, have fun with your co-worker, I’ll see you later then, love you.” she said calmly and kissed him on the phone even though she was so pissed off. She would wait to see tonight how he would react, then it might be the end of their relationship, she thought.
She left before he came out. She went home, felt empty inside. What had made she worried finally come. She wanted to cry so bad, but the tear wouldn’t come out. She didn’t know if it was too hurt to cry or what. She felt her heartache. She dropped her bag on the floor, took off her shoes, and went straight to their bedroom. She looked around. There were so many memories in this room. She didn’t want to lose it within a day like this. She thought again, maybe he had already cheated on her for a long time, but she was just blinded to see because he was so perfect. Even though she got jealous often, but it was just a thought that she tried to show him that she noticed everything about him, she never expected her boyfriend would cheat on her. She was hungry, but she didn’t want to eat now. She laid on her bed, closed her eyes, and kept thinking about their happiness when they were together. She couldn’t believe it herself. She started to think about him coming home late as he told her because of work. She had already suspected about that, but she couldn’t find any evidence of him cheating. Even sometimes she stole his phone when he was in the bathroom, and looked at his texts or phone calls, she couldn’t find anything. He often said that she was just over jealous. She felt asleep without noticing her tear was coming from her eyes through her sleep. She woke up tiredly. Her hair was like spaghetti, her mascara was felt off ‘cause of her tear. She looked at herself in the mirror, felt awfully, but she didn’t care about her look anymore. She looked at her watch, it showed 7pm. Of course he wouldn’t be home until 9 or 10, she said to herself. She decided to find something to eat in the kitchen, instant pasta would make her stomach full, she thought. The house was so dark now. It felt so depressing just like her. She turned on the living-room light which led through the kitchen. She couldn’t believe in her eyes…Her boyfriend was sitting at the sofa smiling at her. She was confused and mad.
“Hi baby, how was sleep?” her boyfriend asked, coming toward her.
“What the heck, why are you home so early, thought you would come home around 9 or 10, didn’t you say so?” she frowned.
“Well yeah, actually I planned that, but my co-worker had something important, so she had to go.” he answered faithfully, even though he knew Lili hated him going out with girl.
“Oh, so that was a lady, how is she?” she pretended like she didn’t care him going out with girl. She continued, “and because she was busy, that’s why you came home early, nice!”
“She is pretty not bad, her name is Jamie. It’s her birthday so she invited me to go dinner with her, that’s all.”
“Her birthday? Are you serious? The whole company and she only invited you for dinner? Do you think there is something wrong with her?” Lili’s blood pressure started to ache her heart. She continues, “and her birthday is more important than…,” Lili stopped, she didn’t want to say it anymore. She was upset.
Her boyfriend was still smiling, and it made her even more upset, he asked curiously, “more important than what baby?”
“Nothing, don’t worry about it.” she said, looked away to the window.
“Come on baby, tell me, what is more important?” he pushed. Then he said, “nothing is more important than our 3rd anniversary.”
She was shocked. He remembered that. Her eyes was opened wide now. Her boyfriend stood there, in front of her laughing out loud. She couldn’t speak at the moment. “What the heck, you remember our anniversary, but you went to dinner with that chick?” she was still mad because he left her alone at home.
“Well, actually, we didn’t go for dinner,” he said, rolling his eyes to the ceiling.
“Then where the hell did you go?”
“Whatever, forget it. You are pissing me off. You knew it’s our anniversary but you didn’t give a damn about it. You’d rather to go out with some random chick than me. You didn’t know I was there waiting for you with hoping that we would go shopping together, and then what? You…you…you.” She couldn’t talk anymore. He gently kissed her lips.
“I know everything. I saw you sitting at the corner, looking at me. I knew you were standing in the front of the company through the window, but I just pretended I didn’t see you.” he looked at her, kissed her forehead. “ I knew you were pissed off that’s why the house was so dark when I came home.” he laughed.
“It’s not funny!” she exclaimed.
“Close your eyes, I want to show you something in the kitchen.”
She closed her eyes, and followed his lead to the kitchen. In her mind, she had so many questions she wanted to know the answer.
“Okay, now open your eyes.” he ordered. “I made you instant pasta! Happy anniversary baby!” he said it loudly.
“What! That’s all?” she frowned.
“Yeah, I made it when you was asleep. I know you will be hungry.”
“No I’m not anymore! I don’t feel like eating. You’re confusing me.” she was disappointed, she was thinking maybe he bought her something nice for the anniversary
so that he could cover for his carelessness about her, but he didn’t
“Come on baby, try it, it’s really good. You will like it.” he begged her to eat.
“Okay, fine, I’ll eat, I have to tell you something later.” she showed him a serious face.
“Tell me whatever after you finish your food.” he kissed her forehead then went to the bathroom.
It was good as she was so hungry, she ate it so fast. “Owt.” she moaned. Something hard just hit her teeth, she took it out. She couldn’t believe in her eyes, it was a diamond ring. Now she knew what was going on. Her boyfriend came out of the bathroom with his dozen of red rose, smiling.
“Happy anniversary trouble maker!” he smiled, kissing her lips again. “One more thing I want to say to you…Will you…”
“Yes!” she answered.
“What? I haven’t finished my sentence!” he screamed.
“Aren’t you going to ask me to marry you?” she said, confusing.
“No, I’m not! I want to ask you to … be my wife!” he laughed out loud.
She chased him around the room for making her nervous. They ended up cuddling together in the bedroom, watching their favourite movie. Lili knew that she was a little childish for thinking too much about the jealousy, but it was just because she loved him so much that she could not afford to lose him.
